Services
The centre’s staff provide ‘hands-on’ practical support and advice in helping ex-Service men and women access the services they need
Information and advice support
We work closely with a wide range of service organisations and agencies such as SPVA (Service Personnel and Veterans Agency), Poppyscotland, Scottish Veteran Residences, SSAFA, as well as local Citizens Advice services, DWP Benefits Offices, Community health and education services. The centre’s staff can help in contacting and communicating with these organisations.
Mental Health support
We work closely with Combat Stress community outreach team, and make referrals for mental health support. The centre also offers direct access to a range of therapists, such as ‘Talking Therapies’ (NLP, EFT, Hypnotherapy) through Peace of Mind Counselling who provide 2 clinics at the centre per week. We also can provide access to Psychotherapists, who have experience in working with ex-service personnel. Therapies such as NLP are specifically designed to be non-invasive, and although classified as education and training approaches, they have been shown to have clear positive therapeutic (psychological improvements) outcomes when combined with a range of other support mechanisms, and they do compliment the more traditional/medical approaches in addressing PTSD.
Complementary therapy
We provide massage therapy sessions one day a week at the centre, by an experienced masseuse, in both sports and relaxation massage. There is a great deal of research and evidence based studies which highlight the health and well-being benefits of massage therapy. Massage therapy can help physically by relieving stress and aid relaxation, reduce blood pressure, relive tension, and help psychologically (mental and emotional health and well-being) by relieving mental stress, reducing anxiety levels, and fostering a sense of well-being.
Gym Facilities
The centre has a small but well equipped gym. We have 2 treadmills, a bike, cross trainer and a range of weight machines. The gym is open to all ex-servicemen and women, and after a small induction session can be accessed during the centre’s opening times.
