The Mark Wright House
It was announced at the beginning of the month that the new wing of The Army Recovery Centre at Erskine Edinburgh Home will be named The Mark Wright House in honour of Mark. This facility will be officially opened next month at a ceremony on 17th August, 2009. Bob and Jem, Mark's parents, were given a tour of the centre on 4th July, 2009. They were both impressed and honoured that such a fine facility should be named after Mark. As well as Bedrooms, there is an internet cafe, gym, bar, large dining and recreational area where giant TV screens , Nintendo and Playstation consoles are being installed.
The Mark Wright House has been built with £466,367 donated from the Help for Heroes Charity and will be home to 12 servicemen to help their road to recovery after treatment at Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham or Headley Court in Surrey. The aim is for similar facilities to be built across the UK.
This project is completely independent of The Mark Wright Project but the Trustees are nonetheless delighted that Mark's bravery is being further recognised. The Mark Wright House will provide a permanent remembrance and be put to a use that he would have approved.
The Cape Wrath Challenge
On Monday, 18th May, 2009, three of Mark's friends from 3 Para Mortars, Darren Hope, Lee Parker andSteve Larkin set out on the first stage of the Cape Wrath Challenge with the dual purpose of raising funds for The Mark Wright Project and another worthy charitable cause, Headway for whom Darren's wife works.
